The Role

We are currently engaged with a leading retail group in Australia. who due to an impressive roadmap at optimizing their IT Systems, Infrastrcuture and Process are seeking a Technical Product Owner to join the team on an initital 12 month contract.

As a
Technical Product Owner
, you'll sit at the intersection of
product strategy, retail operations, and technology delivery
. You'll work closely with developers, architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex retail challenges into scalable, high-impact digital products across both Software and Harward which will be used by customers and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, prioritise, and refine the
    product backlog
    in collaboration with business stakeholders and engineering teams.
  • Translate retail business needs (e.g., merchandising, inventory, payments, loyalty) into
    technical user stories and acceptance criteria
    .
  • Partner with solution architects and developers to ensure
    scalability, performance, and security
    across all products.
  • Act as the voice of the customer and business in
    Agile ceremonies
    (sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews).
  • Monitor product performance and adoption metrics, feeding insights back into the roadmap.
  • Ensure integration of retail systems (POS, ERP, CRM, eCommerce, mobile apps) runs smoothly and supports
    omnichannel strategies
    .
  • Stay across
    emerging retail tech trends
    (AI in retail, self-checkout, digital signage, mobile payments) and feed innovation into product roadmaps.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a
    Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst, or Product Manager
    in a
    retail or consumer-facing environment
    .
  • Strong understanding of retail systems (POS, eCommerce, supply chain, CRM, loyalty, payments).
  • Experience working in
    Agile/Scrum environments
    with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-focused communication.
  • Hands-on experience with backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps).
  • Technical mindset - comfortable discussing APIs, integrations, data flows, and architecture considerations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills - able to influence and align across multiple business units.
