The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Operations Manager to provide a critical role at the Metropolitan Remand Centre.

About the Business Unit

Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a 954-bed maximum-security remand facility based in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Prisoners on remand are alleged offenders who were not bailed when charged with a crime and are awaiting the outcome of their court case.

About the Role

The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for managing the high level, day-to-day operational needs of the prison, contributing to the ongoing strategic planning, implementation, and improvement of prison operations in a changing environment. This involves the provision of advice to the General Manager and development of strategies to address thematic, strategic and operational issues, mitigating risk areas and addressing longer term priorities.

This position is integral to the security and good order of the prison and will hold the portfolios of Professional Standards, Intelligence and Occupational Health & Safety. This position will also undertake the responsibilities acting as the General Manager of the prison when required. This position is responsible for the management of the prison Operations Managers across the areas of Security & Emergency Management, Offender Management and Workforce Environment.

This position may require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work and is remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination

Some of your duties will include:

• Manage the high level, day-to-day operational needs of the prison, including oversight of security, operational compliance and implementation of policies, strategies, programs and OH&S.
• As a member of the prison executive management team, contribute to the ongoing strategic planning, implementation, and improvement of prison operations including the development and implementation of policies, strategies and programs.
• Effectively manage a team of Operations Managers providing feedback on performance and development opportunities.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience within a Correctional Services environment.
• Knowledge of current legislative requirements pertaining to a correctional environment.

Qualifications

• Completed or are currently completing the Victorian Prison Officer preserve training (or relevant jurisdiction equivalent).
