This position is in the Environment and Conservation Policy and Legislation Branch of the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation which leads the delivery of major policy projects across the state including for koalas, biodiversity strategy and environmental offsets. As Senior Policy Officer in the Offsets Policy Team, you will contribute to the regulatory and non-regulatory reform of Queensland's Environmental Offsets Framework, with a view to improving operational delivery of conservation outcomes and contributing to ecologically sustainable development. This position is in the Environment and Conservation Policy and Legislation Branch of the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation. The Branch
leads delivery of major policy projects across the state including for koalas, biodiversity strategy and environmental offsets. As Senior Policy Officer in the Offsets Policy Team, you will be contributing to the regulatory and non-regulatory reform of Queensland's Environmental Offsets Framework, with a view to improving the operational delivery of conservation outcomes and ecologically sustainable development. You will also provide professional and technical policy advice and support to industry, the community and internal stakeholders on the Environmental Offsets Policy and legislative frameworks and develop and improve current systems and approaches.
As The Senior Policy Officer, You Will
- Contribute to the development and implementation of projects and strategies relating to Queensland's environmental offsets framework.
- Analyse and interpret legislation, policy, and other issues of significance to the department and its stakeholders.
- Undertake research and prepare policy content, operational policy and support materials, written reports, submissions, correspondence and briefing materials and other complex and high-level documents.
- Collaborate with and build effective partnerships with the community and key stakeholders, including First Nations peoples.
- Work effectively in collaboration with relevant business groups, within the Queensland Public Sector and key stakeholders in the business, industry, government and conservation sectors to identify issues and areas for improvement of government policy.
- Draft and deliver presentations and professionally represent the department at high-level meetings and workshops.
- Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.
