Exciting opportunity to join a major local government climate alliance, based at one of Melbourne's largest municipalities.

The Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action (WAGA) is a partnership of councils in the west of Melbourne working collaboratively to respond to climate change across the region and encourage their communities – residents and businesses – to make a transition to a zero carbon society. The WAGA Project Officer position is responsible for undertaking a work plan supported by all the WAGA councils: Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley, Moorabool and Wyndham. The position is employed by Brimbank, WAGA's host council. It is supervised by the WAGA Executive Officer and managed in Brimbank's Environment and Climate Emergency Department.

We are currently seeking a short-term appointment for the WAGA Project Officer role while we consider recruitment for a longer term position. The position is based at Brimbank's offices in Sunshine.

The role

Reporting to the WAGA Executive Officer, we are seeking a Project Officer who can bring their skills and experience for:

  • Design, delivery and evaluation of WAGA's projects in line with WAGA's strategic plan and annual work plan
  • WAGA's administration including working with the WAGA Operational Committee, Executive Committee and working groups.

To be considered you will have:

  • Ability to work in accordance with our values and behaviours
  • A relevant degree qualification in climate change, sustainability, environmental management, education or related field with relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the climate emergency and solutions
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and ability to distil simple messages to inform and educate different audiences

  • Ability to prepare and manage budgets and related financial information – is desirable.
  • Local government experience – is desirable

This is a great opportunity to build skills and knowledge and gain an insight into collaborative climate change/sustainability work and the greenhouse alliances. WAGA's work is an important part of each WAGA council's work that makes a difference to the community.
