An exciting and unique opportunity exists for a talented and passionate individual to join the Cabinet and Governance Branch in the Public Administration Group as a Policy Officer, Institutions of Government at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
The Cabinet and Governance Branch provides high-quality strategic analysis and advice on matters relating to the operation of the Westminster system in Victoria within Australia's federal system. It provides advice on public sector administration and workforce matters and the institutions of government, including the Office of the Governor, Parliament, Parliamentary Workplace Standards and Integrity Commission, the Victorian Public Sector Commission and the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel. The Branch is also responsible for supporting the Victorian Government's intergovernmental relationships including through the coordination of Victoria's participation in intergovernmental forums.
The Policy Officer in the Institutions of Government team will work at the centre of government on topical, challenging, and high-impact issues, reforms and projects. The core duties of the Policy Officer role include providing high-quality policy and analysis to the Premier, Secretary and DPC executives on a wide range of matters relating to parliamentary and legislative processes, and parliamentary standards and integrity.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong policy, analytical and communication skills coupled with an ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively in a team, in a complex and fast-paced environment.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will bring:
- Demonstrated policy skills and experience, with the ability to interpret and apply policies, use critical thinking, conduct research, analyse ideas and evidence, consult with others and develop solutions to policy problems.
- Highly developed written communication skills and experience, with the ability to prepare high-quality written advice products that convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, communicate confidently and deliver logical and succinct presentations, and to collaborate with and support others in the pursuit of common goals.
- Proven organisational skills, including the ability to determine priorities, plan and undertake tasks to deliver outcomes, coordinate others in the execution of work activities, and monitor the progress of tasks against plans, taking corrective action when required.
- Adaptability and resilience, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and complex environment, be flexible and adapt quickly to changes.
