Investigation Support Officer | 12 month Fixed Term
Salary range $84,412 - $90,820 plus statutory superannuation

About the role
The Investigation Support Officer role offers an outstanding career opportunity for a professional who is passionate about using their expertise to support VIT in its regulation of Victorian teachers. With knowledge of stakeholder engagement and analysing and evaluating large volumes of information, the role will ensure VIT upholds standards of high-quality teaching and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children.
This role will require you to:
- Manage incoming telephone and email enquiries on behalf of the Professional Conduct Branch;
- Communicate clearly, effectively, and sensitively with applicants and registered teachers about VIT legislation, policies, procedures, and decisions that may impact on the status of their registration;
- Communicate clearly and effectively with external stakeholders such as members of the public, complainants, school principals, managers of early childhood services, Victoria Police, the Commission for Children and Young People, Working with Children Check Victoria, and other teacher regulatory authorities;
- Escalate any urgent or high-risk matters to the responsible manager, lawyer, or investigator for appropriate and timely action;
- Conduct preliminary enquiries on complaints and notifications received, including by making appropriate requests for information and documentation;
- Perform a wide range of administrative tasks including photocopying, data entry, and maintaining accurate and complete case management records;
- Support the branch to comply with VIT financial policies and procedures by generating purchase requisitions and co-ordinating the payment of invoices;
- Provide secretariat support for VIT's Professional Conduct Committee including by preparing meetings agendas, preparing data and statistical reports, summarising CEO decisions, collating and uploading briefing papers to VIT's online file management system and taking meeting minutes as required;
- Be accountable for assessing and managing risk, including by identifying the need to escalate matters as appropriate;
- Establish and maintain a database of precedents for use by the Professional Conduct Branch;
- Maintain accurate, complete timely records of all complaints, notifications, correspondence and action taken using VIT business systems;
- Contribute to the development of VIT business systems, policies and procedures;
- Contribute to the delivery of outcomes aligned with the VIT Strategic Plan, and the Professional Conduct Annual Plan;
- Model Victorian public sector values and VIT behaviours and contribute to a positive culture and working environment both within the Professional Conduct Branch and across VIT; and
- Undertaken other duties as directed.
The role may involve exposure to sensitive matters, which can involve allegations of child sexual abuse.
About you
As an experienced Investigation Support Officer you will have sound and practical knowledge of current regulatory practices.
You will have strong written and verbal communication skills combined with a highly organised approach. In addition to this, as the successful candidate, you will have:
- The ability to explain concepts and policies to applicants, teachers, staff, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills including the ability to draft a wide range of documents including correspondence, agendas, meeting minutes, templates, reports, policies, and procedures.
- Very sound interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain productive, collaborative and professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- High level organisation, planning and prioritisation skills including demonstrated ability to organise workload, determine priorities, define, and sequence works tasks, and deliver on agreed outcomes.
- Organisational awareness and an ability to translate this into effective risk management practices.
