Primary objective

Manage, lead, develop and implement a best practice Mental Health model of care for the new Mental Health Inpatient Unit at the Royal

Darwin Hospital, including guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure delivery of high quality, culturally appropriate and effective mental

health services in the Northern Territory.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead the development of contemporary evidence-based policies and procedures that uphold best practice mental health practices

and align with the relevant legislative requirements and mental health consumer rights.

  1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

3. Provide clinical leadership and drive change to develop and implement models of care in NT Health hospitals.

4. Comprehensive stakeholder engagement and consultation ensuring the voices of experienced clinical professionals, people with lived

experience, Aboriginal, medical and mental health peak bodies and inter-jurisdictional counterparts delivering evidence based

contemporary practice.

  1. Implement an evaluation framework based on consumer and staff feedback and the voices of lived experience.
  2. Contribute to relevant project documentation including reporting, budget management and development of key performance

indicators.

7. Implement change management strategies that ensure that clinical staff are brought along on the journey of change with the

implementation of a new clinical model of care.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Tertiary qualifications in relevant health discipline (i.e. nursing, social work, psychology) and where relevant registration or involvement

in the national disciple specific organisation and or AHPRA.

  1. High level knowledge of National and International trends, challenges, and directions in best practice Mental health services, policy

and legislative requirements.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary health-based project management outcomes including the management of human,

financial, technological, and infrastructure resources that achieve business outcomes.

  1. Strong knowledge of process of government policy development, both operationally, and strategically, including ministerial,

parliamentary, and departmental processes.

  1. Demonstrated experience collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders including advocacy bodies, peak bodies, and Aboriginal

health organisations.

  1. High level written and verbal communication skills to maximise productive working relationships, including with relevant specialists,

executive management and clinicians promoting effective change management processes.

7. Demonstrates and applies highly developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities

that influence health care provision for individuals and groups in the Northern Territory.

Desirable

1. Graduate certificate in Management, Project Management or equivalent.
