As an IT Asset Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and optimising Xero's IT asset landscape. You will lead the strategic management of our hardware, software, and cloud assets across their entire lifecycle, ensuring cost efficiency, compliance, and security. You'll partner with various teams like FinOps and across Xero to drive continuous improvement in our IT Asset Management (ITAM) programme, aligning it with the organisation's strategic goals.

You will be a recognised expert in the ITAM space, relied upon to communicate clearly, constructively, and with a human approach to change. Your outcome-driven mindset will enable you to view our systems holistically, identifying where optimisation efforts will generate the greatest benefit. You will provide clear recommendations on spend prioritisation and empower stakeholders to plan and operate effectively across Enterprise Platforms.

Working alongside the leadership team in Enterprise Platforms, you will:
  • Lead IT Asset Lifecycle Management: Drive the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of ITAM policies, processes, and systems for all IT assets, from acquisition to secure disposal.
  • Software Asset Management (SAM): Ensure that the wider ITAM team to proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with non-compliance and optimise licensing to minimise costs. Utilise our SAAS management tool to provide accurate and informed decision making.
  • Cost Optimisation & Financial Stewardship: Identify significant opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies through asset rationalisation and strategic vendor management. Provide data-driven insights and recommendations for IT asset investments, budgeting, and forecasting to the IT Leadership Team, Finance, and Procurement.
  • Enhance Operational Excellence: Measure and understand bottlenecks across ITAM processes, identifying and leading optimisation efforts. Ensure the integrity and continuous improvement of ITAM processes, utilising applications such as Oomnitza, Agiloft, OneTrust, and Torii.
  • Stakeholder Partnership & Influence: Build strong, collaborative relationships with Product Managers, IT Managers, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and other teams across Xero. Influence and motivate stakeholders through effective communication that aligns them to ITAM objectives and value.
  • Risk Mitigation & Security Posture: Identify and mitigate risks associated with IT asset licensing non-compliance, security vulnerabilities, and data breaches. Ensure the secure and compliant decommissioning of IT assets.
  • Reporting & Insights: Provide key stakeholders with easy-to-digest, tailored reports on licensing, spend, and asset performance. Establish and maintain ongoing reporting cadences to enable informed decision-making across the business.
  • Champion ITAM Best Practices: Be a champion for the Technology group's vision to drive increasing efficiency in software spend and contribute to the overall ITAM program consistent with Xero's strategy.
In order to be successful in this role, you will
  • Be viewed as the go-to source of expertise in the software and asset management space
  • Establish or refine processes within our Asset Management tools to ensure data accuracy,
  • Manage IT assets and software purchases in an efficient and cost-effective manner across Xero
  • Apply critical thinking to all purchases, and correct processes and followed
  • Partner effectively with the Enterprise Platform Leadership team to ensure all IT assets and software are correctly scaled to match Xero's business needsHave fun, grow and learn in this role, doing the best work of your life
You will have
  • Proven experience working with technical teams in IT Asset Management, Software Asset Management or enterprise asset management
  • Experience in a leadership or senior role within ITAM
  • Have a good level of experience in business analysis, report writing, and communication
  • Experience with financial workflows and enterprise technology concepts
  • Experience with ITAM tools such as Oomnitiza, Agiloft, OneTrust, and Torii is highly desirable
