About the role

The Asset Strategy Lead manages AGL's portfolio approach to asset strategy, driving excellence in asset lifecycle management through best practice frameworks, systems, and standards. The role is responsible for the development and continuous improvement of the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), Asset Management Policy, asset planning standards, and supporting systems. It ensures alignment with ISO 55000 principles and embeds asset management practices that support business objectives and long-term sustainability.

What you'll be doing

  • Strategic Leadership and Vision
  • Define and champion the portfolio-wide vision for Strategic Asset Management.
  • Develop and implement KPIs to measure and improve asset strategy maturity and outcomes.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to align senior stakeholders and business unit efforts with best practice.
  • Ownership of the Asset Management Policy and SAMP
  • Own and maintain the portfolio Asset Management Policy, ensuring it reflects ISO55000 principles and business direction.
  • Own and maintain the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), ensuring

    alignment with business goals and site-level Asset Management Plans (AMPs) and Asset System Plans (ASPs).
  • Continuously evolve these documents in line with organisational priorities,

    stakeholder needs, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure consistent application and compliance across the portfolio.
  • Asset Strategy & Planning Standards and Governance
  • Own and improve standards and processes for Strategic Asset Management Planning, AMPs, ASPs, and Whole of Life Plans
  • Work closely with the CAPEX planning process to ensure alignment between

    strategic asset planning and capital investment, and that both processes are

    thorough, integrated, and efficient.
  • Ensure standards are scalable and adaptable to AGL's energy transition and asset diversity.
  • Asset Management Systems & Tools
  • Act as the business owner of asset planning systems and tools.
  • Define system requirements and lead implementation, optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure tools support data-driven, risk-informed asset planning and consistent execution.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Capability Uplift
  • Lead and facilitate a Community of Practice to share knowledge and uplift capability across Site Operations and Engineering, Portfolio Planning and Finance.
  • Mentor and support site-based and functional teams to apply asset strategy

    principles effectively.
  • Represent AGL in external forums to remain informed of industry developments and emerging practices.

  • Ensure that all Operational Standards and Practices introduced comply with AGL policies relating to Health, Safety, Environment and Process Safety.

What you'll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
  • Expert skill level in ISO 55000 Asset Management
  • Excellent communications and influencing skills
  • Confident at liaising with people from all levels of business including the Executive Team
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments.
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in asset management and/or strategy
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and lead strategic change.
  • Experience with portfolio asset management systems and planning tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership in deploying portfolio standards and systems.
  • Experience influencing and working across multiple business units, including Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
