Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Practice Lead to join our Microsoft Business Applications Practice in Melbourne. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically proficient leader to drive the growth and success of our Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Data, and AI capabilities whilst leading high-performing delivery teams and contributing to business development activities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership, managing complex solution delivery, developing our technical capabilities, and supporting business growth through client engagement and proposal development. This role requires a unique combination of deep technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and commercial acumen.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Solution Delivery
- Lead the technical direction and architectural decisions for Microsoft Business Applications projects including Dynamics 365 (Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Finance & Operations), Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Virtual Agents), and associated Data & AI solutions
- Oversee end-to-end project delivery from solution design through to implementation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to development teams, consultants, and junior staff members
- Establish and maintain technical standards, best practices, and delivery methodologies within the practice
- Review and approve solution architectures, technical designs, and implementation approaches for complex projects
- Ensure compliance with Microsoft best practices, security standards, and industry regulations
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage a team of technical consultants, solution architects, and developers
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on continuous learning and professional development
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and career development planning
- Recruit, onboard, and develop technical talent to support practice growth
- Coordinate resource allocation and capacity planning across multiple concurrent projects
- Champion knowledge sharing and technical excellence within the team
Business Development & Client Engagement
- Support business development activities including opportunity identification, solution scoping, and proposal development
- Lead technical aspects of client presentations, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept activities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and Microsoft stakeholders
- Contribute to pricing strategies and commercial proposals for technical solutions
- Represent Empyrean IT at industry events, conferences, and Microsoft partner activities
- Support the development of intellectual property, accelerators, and reusable assets
Practice Development & Innovation
- Stay current with Microsoft roadmaps, emerging technologies, and industry trends
- Drive innovation initiatives and explore new service offerings within the Microsoft ecosystem
- Contribute to thought leadership through blog posts, whitepapers, and speaking engagements
- Maintain and develop Microsoft partnership certifications and competencies
Essential Requirements
Technical Expertise
Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Business Applications including:
Dynamics 365: Deep knowledge of multiple modules (Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Finance & Operations, or Customer Insights)
- Power Platform: Extensive experience with Power Apps (Canvas & Model-driven), Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Virtual Agents
- Data & AI: Proficiency with Microsoft Azure data services(Fabric), AI Builder, Azure Machine Learning, and modern data platform architectures
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure services, integration patterns, and cloud-first architectures
- Experience with software development lifecycle, DevOps practices, and ALM for Microsoft Business Applications
- Knowledge of data migration, system integration, and API development
Leadership & Management Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of experience leading technical teams and managing complex software delivery projects
- Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale Microsoft Business Applications implementations
- Experience with Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility including budget management, cost control, and financial performance accountability
- Experience with agile delivery methodologies and project management frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop technical professionals
Business Development Capability
- Experience supporting business development activities including proposal writing, client presentations, and technical demonstrations
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to translate technical solutions into business value
- Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships at senior levels
- Experience with solution scoping, estimation, and pricing for technical services
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities
- Collaborative approach with proven ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- Natural leadership presence and ability to inspire and motivate team members
Qualifications & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
- Current Microsoft certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., MB-200, MB-230, PL-200, PL-400, or equivalent)
- Additional certifications in Azure, Data & AI solutions highly regarded
Mandatory Requirements
- Location: Must be based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
- Work Authorisation: Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
- Availability: Ability to travel occasionally for client engagements and Microsoft events
