An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grounds & Maintenance Officer to join our dynamic team at St John's College within the University of Queensland.

St John's College within the University of Queensland is an Anglican residential college with a strong reputation and history built over 110 years.  The College is home to over 300 university students and provides a supportive and stimulating living and learning environment that enables each student to pursue optimum academic achievement whilst encouraging life balance through participation in various community, social, cultural, and sporting experiences.

The Grounds & Maintenance Officer will support the operational requirements of the College by being responsible for all aspects of the development, maintenance and presentation of the grounds, gardens, turf, hardscape and road areas. The position will also support the Facilities Manager with the general maintenance of facilities at St John's College, and the maintenance team with their daily tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain College grounds
  • Develop new gardens and plantings.
  • Undertake general maintenance duties as directed by the Facilities Manager
  • Maintain the grounds, hardscape and grassed areas and flower beds.
  • Manage onsite waste and removal from site.
  • Maintain the standard of excellence required by the College's reputation and uphold the philosophy of the College.
  • Other duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and contribute to the attainment of team goals and organisational objectives.
  • Strong client service and work ethic.
  • Ability to perform physical labour on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated service-oriented approach to the work, characterised by problem solving.
  • Professional attitude and understanding of importance of prioritising the range of demands that arise from supporting the College overall

Please note, this role will require a valid Queensland Blue Card or the ability to acquire one. Candidates must also be willing to undergo a national police check.
