The Hunter Valley Tailings Upgrade Project will commence execution in Q1 2026 and aims to increase the current tailings storage capacity of HVO CHPP. The project will encompass civil, concrete, mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation upgrades required to complete the project for handover to the operational team, whilst ensuring safety is our number one priority.
As a Health and Safety Officer, you will be part of a larger HVO Project team and play a critical role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and the environment. Working in the HVO Project team you will collaborate closely with our HSE team to implement and maintain robust health and safety practices. This is a Permanent full-time role.
Reporting to the Tailings Upgrade Area Manager, you will be a results-oriented person with excellent communication skills who will eagerly accept the many challenges associated with this role.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with the provisions of Risk Management and other Safety and Health Management Systems for the Project through a rigorous inspection and observation process, along with risk assessments
- Provide training and support to employees and contractors to promote a culture of safety awareness
- Accurately observing, understanding, and addressing non-conformances while mentoring and demonstrating behaviours that foster effective and professional working relationships
- Monitor and report on health and safety performance indicators, working towards continuous improvement
- Managing and investigating incidents ensuring improvement opportunities are captured and injuries are managed
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation related to health and safety activities.
Requirements for the role include:
Mandatory
- 2+ years' experience in a similar role.
- Current Health and Safety qualifications
- Risk Management Competencies
- Knowledge of WHS Legislation
Desirable
- Exposure to contractor management
- Training Qualifications
- Return to Work Qualifications
- Auditing Qualifications
- First Aid Qualifications
- Competencies in Microsoft Office
- Understanding of construction activities
