Legal Counsel - Renewable Energy 3-6 PQE

Our client is a key player in Australia's energy transition, partnering with governments on critical infrastructure programs to deliver a net-zero energy system. As coal plants retire, they support the coordination of investment in transmission, generation, storage and firming of energy infrastructure.

Position Description

As a Legal Counsel within this industry leading Legal Team, you will play a vital role in supporting Australia's energy transition. Collaborating closely with senior lawyers, leadership, and external stakeholders in government and industry, you will deliver high-quality legal advice on complex, high-impact energy projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape cross-jurisdictional energy policy, tackle novel legal challenges, and develop your skills in a collaborative and inclusive culture.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Completing legal due diligence, compliance reviews, and contract finalisation
  • Advising electricity derivatives and development agreements
  • Preparing tender-related documents and advising on tender products
  • Preparing internal governance documents
  • Providing legal advice on issues affecting the organisation
  • Reviewing and advising on contracts and external publications
  • Managing procurement processes for external legal engagements
  • Maintaining internal Legal Team knowledge and precedent resources
  • Supporting corporate compliance, governance, and company secretarial functions.
  • Representing the organisation with external stakeholders
  • Advising other divisions (Commercial, System Planning, Financial Markets, Risk, Compliance and Audit, Business Operations, Corporate Affairs & Social Value) on legal matters

Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will have:

  • 3-6 years PQE from an established energy team (this may include a corporate, major projects, regulatory, or infrastructure team).
  • Exposure to electricity project matters or energy laws and rules is highly desirable
    but is not a requirement.
