About the team
The Seedbank & Conservation Collections team, part of the Botanic Gardens of Sydney science team (BGoS, ), operates at the Australian PlantBank within the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. The team focuses on seed banking and ex situ conservation of native flora. PlantBank, a leading plant conservation facility in Australia, features an extensive conservation Seedbank with over one-fifth of Australia's flora, including over 70% of NSW's threatened species. It also supports active research in plant conservation and seed biology and offers visitors an interactive plant science experience. The collections are supported by advanced germination facilities and world-leading scientists. 

The role
Our Seedbank & Conservation Collections Team are seeking a Seedbank Project Officer to organise and deliver Seedbank projects as part of the state-wide acquisition and curation of seed and other conservation collections, with the aim to increase ex situ conservation knowledge and effectively support collection end-use and conservation efforts, objectives and outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation of passionate, world-leading scientific and horticulture staff.

What you will bring to the role

  • Prior experience and background in plant conservation plant science, with research experience 
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and to plan and prioritise a complex workload to deliver results.   
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences.   
  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time when/if required
  • Willingness to work on weekends when/if required


What is an essential requirement:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in plant science, with experience in seed biology or plant ecology. Hold a current Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent or have the ability to obtain this qualification.
  • Current driver's license.
