As the Indigenous PhD Pathways Coordinator, you'll play a crucial role in creating and promoting pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates into research degrees at the University of Melbourne. You'll develop and deliver a multidisciplinary PhD familiarisation program, ensuring culturally responsive support for prospective Indigenous graduate researchers. This role offers you the opportunity to make a significant impact on building Indigenous academic leadership and advancing the University's commitment to Indigenous research excellence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and Pilot PhD Familiarisation Program: Create and implement a culturally safe and supportive program for prospective Indigenous graduate researchers across STEM and HASS disciplines.
  • Provide Tailored Support: Serve as a key contact for prospective Indigenous candidates, offering guidance and warm engagement to navigate university processes and pathways.
  • Collaborate Across the University: Work with Murrup Barak, faculty staff, and Chancellery to align program delivery with institutional goals and growing research expertise.
  • Manage Program Logistics: Oversee participant engagement, program promotion, travel, and accommodation for the familiarisation program.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of Indigenous student experiences, capable of developing and implementing initiatives that increase opportunities for prospective Indigenous graduate researchers.

You may also:

  • Possess a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Have demonstrated experience in strategic planning and operational execution of initiatives supporting Indigenous students.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders sensitively.
  • Possess excellent organisational and time management skills, balancing competing demands effectively.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of Indigenous student experiences and cultural safety.
  • Have well-developed written communication skills for preparing reports and delivering research tasks.

The Chancellery (Research and Enterprise) (CRE) portfolio within the Chancellery Division is led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (DVC (R)) and works in partnership with Academic Divisions to achieve the University's research ambitions. The DVC (R) is the accountable officer for research at the University ensuring research is conducted to the highest ethical standards and with a commitment to excellence.
