As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer at Melbourne Law School, you will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative legal research and help shape the next generation of legal professionals. You will teach in the Melbourne Juris Doctor and Law Masters programmes , supervise research students, and engage in impactful scholarship . This role provides a chance to further your academic career in a supportive and collegial environment while making meaningful contributions to the field of law.
Your responsibilities will include:
Teach and Develop Curriculum: Deliver engaging lectures and seminars in the JD and MLM programmes, develop course materials, and contribute to curriculum design.
Conduct Impactful Research: Undertake high-quality research, publish in leading journals, and contribute to the school's research profile.
Supervise and Mentor: Guide students in their research projects at JD, LLM, or PhD levels.
Engage with the Community: Participate in knowledge transfer activities and establish partnerships at local, national, and global levels.

You are a dedicated legal academic with a strong foundation in law, proven teaching experience, and a passion for producing high-quality research in areas such as private, criminal or commercial law.
You will also:
Hold a first degree in law from a common law jurisdiction .
A PhD or equivalent completed in a relevant discipline, in an area of private, criminal or commercial law; namely, Civil Procedure, Contracts, Corporations Law, Criminal Law, Equity & Trusts, Legal Ethics, Property, Remedies and Torts. Exceptionally, professional experience in a relevant area of law in addition to a Master of Laws qualification may be considered a substitute for a PhD.
Potential to achieve the highest levels of scholarship in legal research, demonstrated at least in part by publications of high quality.
Teaching expertise preferably as the seminar leader , lecturer and/or coordinator in a complete subject in law, and demonstrated capacity to develop and deliver seminars and lectures and contribute to other teaching activities.
In addition to the criteria outlined above for Level B, successful applicants for Senior Lecturer must also demonstrate :
A publication record in law that is nationally recognised as being influential in expanding knowledge in private, criminal or commercial law with a trajectory demonstrating capacity to undertake research of international significance.
Evidence of high-quality teaching experience.
Evidence of successful leadership and service contributions to University (including faculty) administration.
Relevant professional experience and networks.
A sound understanding of legal education pedagogy.
Experience with deploying relevant education technologies (e.g., online learning management systems and applications to support interactive learning activities) to support student learning, engagement and participation, and alternative modes of teaching.
