Federal Government Department seeking an APS4 Protective Security Officer to join their collaborative team

Your new company

Hays is currently working with a large Federal Government Department with office locations throughout Australia. The department's Security branch is currently seeking an APS4 Protective Security Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting day-to-day physical operations.

Your new role

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate and maintain physical security systems, including Gallagher access control and CCTV.
  • Coordinate protective security services, including guard presence and contractor liaison.
  • Manage secure containers, safes, and other physical security infrastructure.
  • Respond to enquiries via the shared Security inbox, providing timely and professional service.
  • Support general security operations, reporting, and documentation.
  • Assist in the administration of protective security policies and procedures.
  • Promote a strong security culture across the department.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement security policies that balance risk and operational needs.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call roster as required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Understanding of physical security principles and protective measures.
  • Ideally, hold a Diploma in Government Security or equivalent experience
  • Certificate IV in Security Risk Management or Government Investigations (Desirable)
  • Experience with electronic security systems (e.g. Gallagher, CCTV).
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven customer service experience in a security or operational environment.
  • Familiarity with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) is desirable.
  • Ability to interpret and apply departmental policies in a security context.
  • Willingness to contribute to a positive and proactive team culture.
  • Due to the nature of this work, the ability to work in the office for 5 days is essential.
  • You must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance.
