
Coordinator, Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing

As Coordinator Equity and Diversity, you will be a member of the Council's leadership team. You will work closely with the community, partner agencies, and other Council departments to deliver an integrated and cohesive approach to addressing discrimination and exclusion and improving inclusion and wellbeing for all in the Darebin community. You will work with high-quality teams, skilled in diversity, equity and inclusion principles and practice. These teams are essential to Council's ability to deliver responsive, accessible, equitable and inclusive projects, programs, and services across the municipality.
About Darebin City Council
The city has one of the largest populations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents in metropolitan Melbourne and is home to one of the largest, most diverse communities anywhere in the State in terms of cultures, language, religions, gender, age, abilities, socio-economic background, employment status, occupation, and housing needs. One in five Darebin residents is affected by a disability, and almost one-third of these residents require assistance with daily living. About 6 per cent of the population 16 years and over, identify as bisexual, gay or lesbian.
About the Role
Leading a diverse team, you will work across the organisation and with a range of external stakeholders to deliver Council's equity, inclusion, diversity and wellbeing objectives as outlined in the Towards Equality Framework, Council Plan and Municipal Public Health & Wellbeing Plan This includes a range of portfolio areas including equity policy and planning, addressing racism and discrimination, LGBTIQA inclusion, multicultural affairs, gender equity and the prevention of violence, public health and wellbeing, access and inclusion.
Skills & Experience
o A tertiary qualification in Social Policy, Community Development, Public Health or other relevant field and / or relevant 5 years experience in policy and strategy development, project planning and delivery.
Substantial, demonstrated, relevant experience including:
o Demonstrated knowledge of inclusion, diversity, accessibility, wellbeing and equity policy and programs at the local, federal, and state government level.
o Proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate inclusion, diversity, accessibility, wellbeing and equity strategies, policies, programs, business cases, reports, and projects, ideally in a local government context.
o Extensive experience in managing complex and integrated strategic policy and projects with significant resource demands and community expectations, and an ability to seek innovative and practical solutions to problems, issues, and conflict in an effective, fair, and transparent manner.
o Experience in managing a diverse team, and in fostering a culturally and gender safe work environment for staff, community, stakeholders, and partners.
o Up-to-date knowledge of relevant local and national diversity, accessibility and inclusion priorities and ability to apply to a local context.
o Strong knowledge of cultural and gender safety practices, sector best practice and Federal and State government policy and legislation related to social inclusion, equity, and wellbeing.
o Demonstrated ability to forward plan projects and programs designed to achieve Council's social inclusion and equity goals and objectives.
o An understanding of Council's vision, goals, targets, and values and the socio-economic context in which it operates, and the ability to represent these in the development of new, and delivery of existing programs.
Interpersonal Skills
o Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of multidisciplinary professionals within a complex environment with proven excellence in communication, leadership and conflict resolution.
o Proven ability to engage with people and build constructive relationships with a diverse range of groups and individuals, including demonstrated ability to build and maintain networks relevant to Council business.
o Outstanding communication skills with a genuine interest in working with others including listening, openness and a balanced, constructive and collaborative approach.
o High self-awareness and a personal style that models integrity, equity, fairness, and transparency.
