The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Business Development Manager to drive our growth in the engineering professional services sector. This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident sales professional with a strong technical aptitude in mechanical design and engineering. You will be instrumental in identifying new business opportunities, understanding client challenges, and showcasing how our design services can provide significant value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • New Business Acquisition: Proactively identify, target, and engage potential B2B clients, primarily within the engineering, manufacturing, and product development sectors.

  • Consultative Selling: Develop a deep understanding of prospective clients' business operations, challenges, and objectives to effectively position our services.

  • Solution Articulation: Clearly communicate the benefits of 3D modelling, CAD, and advanced design methodologies in improving business processes, reducing costs, and accelerating innovation.

  • Client Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong, long-lasting relationships with new and existing clients, acting as a trusted advisor.

  • Sales Cycle Management: Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation and initial contact through to proposal development, negotiation, and closing deals.

  • Technical Understanding: Leverage your knowledge of mechanical design, engineering principles, and CAD software to understand client needs and technical requirements.

  • Value Proposition Development: Demonstrate how our services, including the generation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) from CAD for ERP/MRP integration, can streamline client workflows and improve data accuracy.

  • Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in design and engineering.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with our technical and design teams to ensure client solutions are effectively scoped and delivered.

  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of sales activities and customer interactions using our CRM system.

About You (Essential Skills & Experience):

  • Proven Sales Track Record: Demonstrable success in B2B sales, with a strong hunter mentality and experience in generating new leads and closing deals.

  • Technical Acumen: Solid understanding of mechanical design, mechanical engineering principles, and manufacturing processes.

  • CAD & Design Evangelist: A critical understanding of how 3D modelling, CAD software, and strategic design thinking can significantly improve business outcomes (e.g., time-to-market, cost reduction, innovation).

  • Confident Communicator: Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to confidently approach and engage new clients at various organisational levels.

  • Problem Solver: Ability to quickly identify client business challenges and pain points, and propose effective solutions.

  • Client-Centric: A genuine commitment to understanding and improving client businesses through our technology and services.

  • Self-Motivated & Driven: Ability to work autonomously, manage your own pipeline, and consistently meet or exceed sales targets.

Highly Desirable (Ideal Candidate):

  • Specific experience selling professional services within the engineering sector.

  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, Creo, etc.).

  • Practical experience using CAD software to generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and an understanding of how these feed into downstream processes like ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.

  • An existing network within the Melbourne engineering and manufacturing community.
