The Role

The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia's economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

We are seeking a highly motivated individuals to fill the multiple EL 1 – Assistant Director positions in the Government and Public Relations Branch in Chief Operating Officer Division of ASA.

In these roles you will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role. You will build strong relationships with stakeholders across the NPS Enterprise, the Defence Portfolio and the whole of Government. You will work productively and collegiately in a multidisciplinary environment, manage competing and time critical priorities, and provide detailed and sound strategic guidance to various stakeholders about complex matters. Your work will promote and support the strategic objectives of the ASA.

The duties of an Assistant Director (Multiple roles) Executive Level 1 may include a combination of the following:

  • Manage the preparation, coordination, and reviewing documentation for, but not limited to visits, freedom of information requests, ministerial, parliamentary, cabinet, and committees.
  • Drafting and managing ministerial correspondence and briefing materials, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with government priorities.
  • Supporting the delivery of information requests in accordance with legislative requirements and agency procedures.
  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of official visits and protocol activities, including domestic visit liaison and stakeholder engagement.
  • Facilitating effective interdepartmental and interportfolio communication, contributing to whole-of-government coordination and collaboration.
  • Providing support and training in systems such as PDMS, and contributing to continuous improvement in workflow and document management.
  • Maintaining internal communication tools and engagement records.
  • Applying quality assurance processes to ensure outputs meet required standards and comply with relevant legislation, policy, and procedural frameworks.
  • Building and sustaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support ministerial and parliamentary outcomes.
  • Tailoring communication and advice to suit diverse audiences and levels of expertise.
  • Managing competing priorities and contributing to team planning, including setting goals, tracking progress, and delivering outcomes within required timeframes.
  • Demonstrating initiative and sound judgment in resolving issues, identifying risks, and recommending solutions.
