We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced SHUTDOWN PLANNERS to join our growing team.
An opportunity exists for an experienced SHUTDOWN PLANNER with a relevant trade or engineering background to join our team.
Working alongside our shutdown team, you will bring your experience in planning major shutdowns by scoping, resourcing, planning and scheduling an upcoming major shutdown.
You will initially be based in our Naval Base office during planning development however would be required to travel site during the shutdown period. A requirement of this opportunity may involve some afterhours work, together with working weekends and public holidays.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shutdown Planning & Scheduling
- Develop the overall shutdown plan, including work breakdown structure (WBS), integrated schedules, and milestones.
- Coordinate input from operations, maintenance, engineering, inspection, contractors, and OEMs.
- Include job pack details with resource, equipment, and material and tooling requirements
- Optimize work sequences to reduce plant downtime while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Develop contingency and recovery plans to mitigate risks of schedule delays.
Execution Readiness
- Lead readiness reviews and ensure pre-shutdown activities (materials, permits, scaffolding, isolation lists, vendor mobilization) are completed.
- Ensure turnaround planning system, P6 is maintained with accurate and current data.
Establish shutdown reporting structures, and daily progress tracking.
Incorporate process safety management (PSM) and permit-to-work (PTW) requirements into all shutdown planning.
- Lead pre-shutdown safety reviews (HAZOP/HAZID) and participate in toolbox talks during execution.
Leadership & Coordination
- Act as the central point of contact for shutdown planning, coordinating between operations, maintenance, reliability, and project teams.
- Lead shutdown planning meetings and readiness reviews, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders.
- Manage subcontractor planning interfaces to ensure integrated scheduling.
Key Deliverables
- Approved shutdown execution plan.
- Fully integrated Primavera P6 shutdown schedule.
- Shutdown readiness and progress reports (daily, weekly, and final closeout).
- Lessons learned report and improvement plan.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent trade/technical background with extensive planning experience).
- Minimum 10 years' experience in maintenance/shutdown/turnaround planning in oil & gas, chemicals, or fertiliser industries, with at least 5 years in a shutdown planning role.
- Strong knowledge of ammonia/urea plant operations, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, heat exchangers, reformers, and associated safety systems will be desirable.
- Proficient in planning and scheduling tools (Primavera P6 and MS Project).
