Melbourne, Victoria, Australia CBUS Super Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Overview

Cbus is a super fund with a social conscience, serving the people who build Australia. We're investing in design because we believe better experiences lead to better outcomes - for everyone.

We're looking for a UX writer to join our experience design team on a 6-month contract. This role is about shaping content on initiatives that genuinely improve how our members engage with their super—securely, confidently, and with clarity.

This role is offered as an initial 6 month MTC with possibility of extension.

Role Details

The UX Writer position is part of the Experience Design team at Cbus. As a UX writer at Cbus Super, you'll be shaping experiences that directly impact the financial futures of over 900,000 members across Australia's building, construction, and allied industries. You'll be working for a profit-for-members fund where every design decision contributes to better retirement outcomes for hardworking Australians.

You'll join a fund that's investing in member-focused solutions. Our members work in physically demanding, often dangerous jobs - designing for them means creating solutions that are intuitive, accessible, and genuinely helpful during critical life moments.

You'll work with a team that is helping shape how an entire generation interacts with their retirement savings. You'll work alongside a tight-knit team of experience designers, product designers and product managers who value collaboration, curiosity, and craft. Design has a seat at the table here.

You'll be instrumental in driving design excellence across key initiatives, including:

Lead UX content strategy for key initiatives:

  • Take ownership of content design on strategic projects, from initial discovery through to launch.
  • This involves understanding the project's objectives and user stories, and then planning the content requirements end-to-end.

Conduct content audits and reviews:

  • Audit existing content across Cbus website, member portal and mobile app to evaluate its quality, consistency, and performance.
  • Provide recommendations to improve Information Architecture and content.

Define and document the content standards:

  • Establish UX content guidelines as part of the design system, including tone of voice for interface content, terminology, and style rules.
  • Ensure these guidelines are understood and applied by other team members.

Contribute to and maintain the design system from a content perspective:

  • Work closely with Product Designers to integrate content components into the design system library.
  • Ensure content components meet accessibility guidelines.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams:

  • Partner with Experience Designer, Product Designers, UX Researchers, Digital Product Managers, Engineers, and Compliance/Legal teams to create desired user experiences.

Ensure content is accessible and inclusive:

  • Apply best practices in usability and adhere to accessibility standards like WCAG 2.1 in all writing.
  • Ensure content can be understood by users of varying abilities and literacy levels.

Present and communicate content decisions:

  • Articulate the rationale behind content choices and present content designs and research findings to stakeholders.
  • Create documentation and slide decks as needed to explain how the UX content strategy meets user needs and supports Cbus' goals.

Design and write user-centered content for digital products:

  • Create clear, concise, and grammatically correct interface copy that helps users navigate web and mobile applications.
  • This includes content for onboarding flows, help text, and transactional communications.

Mentor and coach others in effective writing:

  • Help coach designers and other team members in best practices for UX writing and content design.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience and Education: Proven experience in UX writing, content design, or a related field is highly preferred. Experience in the finance or superannuation industry is a plus.
  • Strong portfolio of UX writing work: A compelling set of work samples that demonstrate the ability to create clear and effective digital content
  • Technical and Design Skills: Expertise in UX writing and microcopy, understanding of UX design principles and user psychology, proficiency in design tools like Figma, and experience with content management systems
  • Accessibility and inclusive design: Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) and how to apply them in writing
  • Research and analytical skills: Ability to conduct or leverage user research related to content and analyze qualitative feedback and quantitative metrics to derive insights

Who you are

You're a UX writer who is comfortable leading complex work, influencing stakeholders, and thinking in systems. You care about accessibility, clarity, and the human side of digital experiences. You will have a compelling portfolio that demonstrates user-cantered design thinking, strategic problem-solving, and measurable impact across digital products.

Your proven experience in design systems, including building, maintaining, and evolving scalable systems that prioritize accessibility and consistency across platforms will be key to the success of this role.

You will also possess strong communication skills, with confidence in presenting recommendations and research insights to stakeholders at all levels—including product, delivery, and executive teams.
