Building Supervisor

We are looking for highly skilled and committed building supervisor or construction manager to join our team at Mornington Shire Council. This is a permanent role.

The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.

The Role:

A great opportunity in our Housing and Facilities Division for a Building Supervisor or construction manager to join the team. The Building Supervisor will report to the Manager Construction. Your duties will include but are not limited to:

• Supervise and administer Council's construction and building contracts to ensure timely and efficient delivery of housing construction, maintenance and repairs, also ensuring Council complies with its contractual obligations under the Indigenous Employment Program.
• Plan, coordinate and manage new builds, repairs and maintenance for all council staff housing.
• Plan, coordinate and manage new constructions, repairs and maintenance for all council owned commercially leased premises.
• Supervision of Contractors, Council carpenters, plumbers, concreters, painters, electricians, Apprentices and Trades Assistants to ensure appropriate allocation of personnel to scheduled works in a timely and efficient fashion.
• Ensure appropriate document control procedures for all Projects plans, specifications and records are maintained.
• Ensure project completion is achieved, providing adequate documentation for invoices to be raised for all services provided.
• Provide support to the Housing Manager to ensure Council accurate budget reporting for all housing projects is provided in a timely manner.
• Provide additional support to the Housing and Facilities Division as required.
• Ensure Council's Workplace Health & Safety Management System is implemented on supervised job sites.

About you:

To be considered for these roles you must be committed to safety in the workplace. You must also possess:

• Highly developed leadership and management skills within a civil construction environment.
• Highly developed Project management skills, including the ability to plan and deliver multiple projects across multiple teams of building tradesmen.
• Highly developed communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate across building tradesmen and a culturally diverse setting.
• Advanced time management skills, with the ability to problem solve, plan and prioritise critical factors.
• Sound financial management skills, able to prepare and manage divisional and discrete project budgets.
• Possession of a current QLD Driver's Open License
• Simpro or other job management software
• Quality control experience
• Estimator / procurement experience
