Cairns, Queensland, Australia Brickworks Building Products Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

**We're seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Fitter to join our Brickworks masonry plant in Cairns, Queensland.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will safely and efficiently perform emergency, project, and preventative maintenance of our machinery and equipment. This is a hands-on role that plays a crucial part in ensuring plant efficiency and minimising downtime.

Typical working hours:**
Monday – Friday, 38–45 hours per week, with overtime.

Standard hours are 6:00am – 3:00pm. Some flexibility around start and finish times.

There may be occasional call-outs for major breakdowns outside of these hours.

Starting $43/hr, with the possibility of increasing after a probationary period

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Examine faulty machinery and equipment for defects and perform necessary repairs.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all WHS policies and procedures.
  • Use hand tools to assemble parts with mechanical expertise.
  • Maintain plant mechanical assets to promote efficient operation of equipment.
  • Perform planned, unplanned, and requested maintenance tasks effectively.
  • Diagnose faults, resolve maintenance issues, and minimize production impact.
  • Work with management, supervisors, and maintenance teams to resolve breakdowns and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct proactive breakdown analysis and identify problem areas in the plant.
  • Ensure all work meets industry standards, legislation, codes of practice, and company procedures, with accurate documentation.

Success Requirements

  • Mechanical Fitting Trade qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of welding fabrication standards
  • Experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, machining and robotics (desirable).
  • Proficient using Excel and Outlook to manage maintenance tasks and communicate with contractors.
  • Demonstrated sound mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand schematic drawings, plans and specification.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Strong time management, administration and organisational skills.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks with varying levels of priority to minimise downtime.
