Role purpose

The Finance Officer is responsible, in conjunction with the Finance Manager, for the financial records, invoicing and expense payments as well as payroll, and the monthly and annual financial reporting for Nature NSW.

Part-time, 2 days p/w

Contract period:
12 months with possibility of extension

Salary:
SCHCADS Award Level 3 - $76,000 pro-rata (plus superannuation)

Roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Officer is responsible for the following:

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring approvals and documentation are in line with policies for all expenses
  • Prepare payroll for the review of the Finance Manager
  • Set up payments and transfers in the online banking system
  • Keep the bank reconciliations up to date
  • Prepare monthly journals for posting
  • Support with the receipting of donations
  • Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of the annual budget and 3 quarterly reforecasts
  • Prepare and distribute papers for Board Finance and Risk sub-Committee and take minutes
  • Support in the annual audit process
  • Support in the management of grant funding, including the compliance and acquittal reporting where required.

Other roles and responsibilities

  • Contribute actively to the achievement of the goals of the core team and the organisation according to the Annual and Strategic plans.
  • Undertake other tasks as required and in line with the skills and expectations of this role.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a finance or accounting position, including responsibilities for accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
  • Experience with Xero and strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the Core Team
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to liaise with stakeholders with varying degrees of financial understanding.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a busy environment handling a variety of tasks, the ability to prioritise appropriately and the ability to complete multiple tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Experience in the charitable/not for profit sector or a membership peak organisation

Education:
Seeking applicants with relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting or bookkeeping or equivalent experience, or are working towards an accounting qualification.
