About the role

A rare opportunity to join ACMI's Programming team as our Head Curator. The Head Curator is a screen culture subject matter expert who oversees the conceptual development of ACMI's temporary and permanent exhibitions drawing on loans and licensed materials, as well as the presentation of the ACMI Collection. The role leads a small, fast paced, creative, passionate team of Curators who deliver engaging and ambitious exhibition programs of home grown and loan shows, art presentations and new commissions. This is a new full-time ongoing role reporting to the Director of Curatorial, Programming & Education.

What you'll bring to the role

  • Strong knowledge of the history of the moving image and attendant screen culture, with experience managing and mentoring creative staff.
  • Experience leading the development of major museum exhibitions, with a proven track record in developing and delivering high quality audience-centric visitor experiences of excellent curatorial rigour that achieve audience outcomes.
  • A professional approach that uses research to refine curatorial thinking, with the end goal of providing innovative, bold experiences for diverse audiences.
  • Understanding and experience with the specifics of curating and presenting interactive and media installations in a museum context, combining artefacts, art and media into compelling experiential spaces.
  • Experience with high level stakeholder management across corporate, private, cultural, artist and institutional settings.
