Key Responsibilities

The Carpenter will play a hands-on role in the production of prefabricated timber trusses and frames. Core duties include:

  • Interpreting shop drawings and design specifications to prepare timber components for production.
  • Selecting and measuring timber lengths, marking cut lines, and preparing layouts for assembly.
  • Operating saws, presses and other workshop machinery, together with hand and power tools, to cut, shape and finish components.
  • Assembling timber sections into trusses and frames using jigs, fixings and fasteners, ensuring accuracy and compliance with structural requirements.
  • Checking completed units for accuracy of dimensions, alignment and quality standards before dispatch.
  • Carrying out adjustments or repairs to prefabricated items when required.
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work area and following workplace health and safety practices.
  • Assisting with stock management of timber and consumables.
  • Working collaboratively with other trades and production staff to meet schedules and client requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification or at least three years work experience in lieu of qualification.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans and workshop drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to use workshop machinery and carpentry tools safely and accurately.
  • Strong eye for detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and ability to follow WHS procedures.
