The Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) is committed to providing leadership in safety and quality to improve health care for patients in NSW. The primary focus of the CEC is to promote and support improved clinical care, safety and quality across the NSW public health system, and to meet functions specified by the Minister for Health. The CEC Strategic Plan places priority on delivering high performing reliable systems and ensuring safety and quality in the provision of healthcare for 'every patient, every time' is consistent across NSW Health.

What you'll be doing

This position will assist the Program Lead in delivering and monitoring the safety and quality components of the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) and other state-wide digital healthcare programs and digital enablers so that they align with the objectives of the CEC, to ensure oversight of the data and clinical safety elements. The position will work closely with the Program Lead to develop and implement the CEC's strategy and plan required during the build, implementation, and maintenance phases. This position is an integral part of the CEC's safety and quality partnership with the SDPR Implementation Authority in the SDPR program. The position is accountable for timely escalation of issues to the Program Lead to:

  • Ensure safety governance/assurance is applied rigorously and consistently at a system level as well as in priority areas to meet national safety and quality standards, policies, and legislative and clinical governance requirements.
  • Ensure statewide digital clinical safety capability is enabled, and principles are developed to guide and ensure patient and staff safety is achieved.
  • Provide safety system expertise and advice to optimise development of various solutions including but not limited to digital solutions, tools, and analytics, forcing functions and clinical decision support to ensure preservation, and strengthening of existing safety products and solutions to support NSW Health priority patient safety programs.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant clinical discipline and/or equivalent; with extensive experience, knowledge and demonstrated achievements that enable a sophisticated understanding of the electronic medical record from a safety assurance, and data intelligence perspective.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all aspects of project and program management including, leading, planning, managing resources, developing, implementing, and evaluating safety and quality programs in a state-wide or large-scale setting.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple and concurrent initiatives with conflicting milestones and deadlines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience developing effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including liaising with and influencing stakeholders to adopt and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Superior analytical skills including demonstrated ability conducting literature reviews and applying research; conducting data analysis and interpretation; preparing and presenting analysis and reports; and managing program risks and implications.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience drafting complex written documents such as reports, briefs, and advice for senior managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead staff fostering a collaborative environment.
