REQ SESLHD - Level 1-2 Occupational Therapist - Rehabilitation

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Level 1 / 2 Occupational Therapist to join our dedicated team in a permanent full-time role across the Rehabilitation services of St George Hospital.

Working Tuesdays-Saturdays, the successful candidate will join the Occupational Therapy Rehabilitation Team. This team includes OTs working across inpatient rehabilitation, our Day Rehabilitation Unit, and our Outpatient OT service. The team also encompasses our Allied Health Assistant and Diversional Therapy workforces, as well as a robust student education program. Clinically you will be an integral part of the inpatient rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team which delivers an enhanced model of care via the newly established Rehabilitation Cognitive Transition Unit (RCTU) located in the modern Kensington Street Building at St George Hospital.

The RCTU provides structured, patient-centered rehabilitation for individuals with mild to moderate acquired brain injuries. Our multidisciplinary team delivers evidence-based assessment, therapy, and transition planning, supporting patients in their recovery of cognition, communication, and daily function. This role will play a critical role in the continuation of care for patients, particularly in our unique position as NSW's leading center for trauma and emergency care in the State.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver high quality occupational therapy care to patients of the St George Hospital Rehabilitation Services consistent with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.
  • Provide evidence-based occupational therapy assessment and interventions to support patients in regaining independence and functional ability following illness, injury, or disability. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centered rehabilitation that promote goal achievement and quality of life.

We have a strong focus on clinical and leadership skill development and strive to provide consistent high quality occupational therapy services across the campus. Our department consists of 38 occupational therapists, diversional therapists and support staff, and we work across a variety of inpatient, outpatient and community services. Clinically we provide services to aged care, acute surgical and medical, trauma, neurological, rehabilitation, palliative care, lymphoedema and hands patients. We coordinate a robust student program and provide a variety of professional development opportunities. Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and Current Registration with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated core competency skills relevant to the facility and occupational therapy service within rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience.
  • Computer skills and the capacity to use health information systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and evidence based practice and a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence.
