Grainery Lane is the Distillery and restaurant in Ballarat's CBD.  We make our own bespoke spirits, including rum, gin and vodka.  These spirits are paired with an Asian/ South American Fusion share - plate menu that changes with the seasons.

We are seeking an experienced Head Chef and Sous Chef to join our team at Grainery Lane. As the Head Chef you will be responsible for leading our kitchen team and ensuring the delivery of exceptional dining experiences for our customers. This is a full-time position based in our restaurant located in Ballarat.

What you'll be doing

  • Overseeing the daily operations of the kitchen, including menu planning, food preparation, and quality control
  • Supervising and training kitchen staff to ensure high standards of food quality and presentation
  • Developing and implementing new menu items, incorporating seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients
  • Maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards in the kitchen
  • Managing kitchen inventory, ordering supplies, and staying within budgetary constraints
  • Collaborating with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service
  • Fostering a positive and productive working environment in the kitchen

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Head Chef or Sous Chef in a high-quality restaurant or hospitality setting
  • Strong culinary skills and a passion for creating innovative, flavourful dishes
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with the ability to motivate and develop kitchen staff
  • Thorough knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the front-of-house team
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and sustainable practices
