Surry Hills New South Wales Australia GetUp Full time $88,000 - $100,783 per year

GetUp is looking for a Content Producer / Digital Storyteller with strong content and communication skills to work on our campaigns. This is an exciting opportunity for someone near the start of their career as an activist or someone looking to make the jump into full time activism.

While GetUp has a large and active supporter base which we primarily reach through email, our reach is currently much lower in social media channels. Given our ambitious vision, this needs to change. A successful GetUp content producer will be adept at turning ideas into high impact creative content which can engage members across various platforms and amplify our campaigns, with a particular focus on video content.

SCHADS classification Level 4-5 with salary $88, $100,783.28 per annum + superannuation. This is a 12 month fixed term role ideally based in Sydney or Melbourne, but with an openness to great candidates located anywhere in Australia. The role has the strong possibility of becoming ongoing.

At GetUp, we know our capacity to drive progressive change is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience. We are actively looking for applicants from a diverse range of genders, cultures, language groups, abilities, and experiences to apply.

WHO IS GETUP

GetUp is an independent campaigning community and movement of more than one million everyday people working to build a progressive Australia and put people back into politics.

GetUp works on a range of campaigns in the areas of First Nations Justice, Climate Justice, Economic Fairness, Human Rights and Democratic Integrity.   Whatever we do - from making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the environment, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health – we do it with as many people as possible – using their hands, hearts, and voices to fight for justice on the issues that matter most.

GetUp is currently several months into a significant rebuild following the last Federal Election. In the last few months, GetUp has been engaging more people in its campaigns and raising more money from its supporters than at any other point in the last few years, on a range of important issues from Freedom of Information to climate to gambling ads to Gaza. Hiring for a number of new roles – including this one – is a key part of that rebuild, and ensuring that GetUp is well placed to have a very significant impact in the years ahead.

THE CAMPAIGNS TEAM

GetUp is full of talented campaigners who lead the organisation's efforts to create a more progressive Australia. The campaigns team prides itself on deep strategic thinking as well as the ability to seize crucial change moments that make a massive difference on our issues.

Their days are filled with analysing the political state of play, developing long-term and rapid-fire strategy, engaging with politicians, media and affected communities, spotting the right moment to intervene, running impactful tactics including everything from protests to undercover investigations, writing hard-hitting copy, and coming up with creative ways to give our members the best chance for impact.

AS A CONTENT PRODUCER / DIGITAL STORYTELLER AT GETUP, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
  • Conceptualising, drafting and producing content with a focus on social media channels, including lo-fi video – with an aim to significantly growing our reach and engagement on social media;
  • Monitoring the latest news and developments for content and campaigns opportunities;
  • Contributing to campaign research, strategy, planning and evaluation;
  • Assisting campaigns teams to execute campaigns and meet their goals;
  • Moderating social media content;
  • Supervising a limited number of volunteers as required.
YOU WILL BE SOMEONE WHO:
  • Has a deeply held commitment to justice who is passionate about creating progressive change on a wide range of issues;
  • Has deep familiarity with Instagram, Tiktok and ideally Facebook and the sort of content that works there;
  • Has strong digital skills and a willingness to learn new technologies, and who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
  • Has strong written communication skills, adept at thinking through complex issues and communicating them simply and clearly;
  • Works independently on a range of tasks and projects and takes initiative to get the job done;
  • Is a team player who is always bringing off-the-wall, creative ideas to the table; and
  • Has at least two years relevant experience.
BONUS POINTS FOR:
  • Experience on-camera in social media videos (or a willingness to develop this skill);
  • Experience in GetUp-style online campaigning or another campaigning context;
  • Proven ability to manage complex creative workflows with multiple stakeholders;
  • Experience working in the media cycle;

Creativity is expected in this role. A portfolio showcasing your work on content or campaigns  will help us understand your creative range and approach.

If these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than excellence, initiative and drive.

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Generous entitlements to keep you happy and healthy, including six weeks holidays per year
  • Salary at Level 4-5 of the EA: $88, $100, superannuation and leave loading
  • A hybrid and flexible work environment.
  • Multiple all-team events each year
  • Opportunities to grow and develop your career.
