Position Overview

The Social Wellbeing Officer plays a crucial role within the Social Wellbeing Team, focusing on assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals facing low to moderate mental health challenges. This position involves utilizing coaching methodologies, counseling, and support to help clients enhance their lifestyle and achieve their wellness aspirations.

You will work closely with clients, their families, and community members to foster trusting relationships and develop culturally responsive support plans. The role will also involve case management to ensure clients receive the necessary ongoing support to thrive.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled professional who is dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Mental Health or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills to navigate complex situations.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement processes.
  • Blue Card - Working with Children - ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Current Australian Federal Police Check (Within the last 6 months) Ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Valid Drivers Licence.

As a Social Wellbeing Officer, you will have the opportunity to impact the lives of individuals and families, helping them to navigate their mental health journeys in a supportive and culturally safe environment.

Selection Criteria

SC 1 Demonstrated knowledge and ability to undertake intake, assessment, support planning, monitoring and review within a culturally safe and responsive mental health framework.

SC 2 Demonstrated experience working within a cross-cultural environment and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

SC 3 Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary health care and the social, economic and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' health.

SC 4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.

SC 5 Knowledge of and / or involvement in quality improvement processes.

SC 6 Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of human resource management issues including Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Antidiscrimination.
