Job Title: Senior Software Developer-Technical Lead
Location: Brisbane
Employment Type: full-time
The job
This is a hands-on Technical Team Lead role for a Cloud & Platform team, where the primary focus is on the development and enhancement of back-end services using .NET and Microsoft Azure. The successful candidate will act as a hybrid technical expert and scrum master, providing technical guidance, code contributions, and architectural oversight while managing daily project delivery and mentoring a distributed team of engineers. While the manager retains full responsibility for HR tasks, this lead role is essential for ensuring high-quality, scalable solutions are delivered on time, requiring deep C# and Azure expertise, a proven track record in technical leadership, and strong communication skills to manage both the team and internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
This role is a pivotal technical leadership position, focusing on day-to-day team guidance and technical delivery.
- Technical Delivery and Quality Assurance: Drive the development, enhancement, and maintenance of robust, scalable, and secure back-end services for the flagship CostX product on Azure.
- Agile Team Management (Scrum Master): Manage and drive the team's project delivery by overseeing day-to-day scrum activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Technical Guidance and Architecture: Provide hands-on technical guidance, architectural review, and code contributions to the distributed team, ensuring solutions adhere to best practices and high-quality standards.
- Mentoring and Professional Growth: Lead and mentor a distributed team of .NET engineers, fostering their professional growth through coaching, regular 1-on-1s, and constructive feedback.
- Technical Strategy and Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Head of Engineering and other technical leads to shape the technical roadmap, ensure cohesion, and bridge the modern cloud stack with the core desktop application.
Essential requirements
- Deep C# and .NET Expertise: Extensive, in-depth knowledge of C#, modern .NET frameworks (such as .NET Core, .NET 5+), and mastery of object-oriented design principles.
- Microsoft Azure Proficiency: Strong practical experience developing and deploying services using key Microsoft Azure components (e.g., App Service, Functions, Azure SQL, and Azure Bicep for infrastructure).
- Proven Technical Leadership Experience: At least 2+ years of demonstrated experience in a formal or informal leadership capacity, specifically focused on mentoring, technical guidance, and driving project delivery.
- DevOps and CI/CD Fluency: A solid, working understanding of Azure DevOps, Git, and the implementation of robust Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical ideas, architectural rationale, and project updates clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desired skills and competencies
- Deep .NET/C# Expertise: Extensive, in-depth knowledge of C#, modern .NET frameworks (.NET Core, .NET 5+), and a solid understanding of object-oriented design principles.
- Cloud and DevOps Proficiency: Strong practical experience with key Microsoft Azure services (such as Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Azure Bicep) and a solid understanding of Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven Technical Leadership: At least 2+ years of experience in a formal or informal leadership role, focused on mentoring engineers, guiding team projects, and ideally possessing an architectural mindset in designing distributed systems or microservices.
- Exceptional Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical ideas and rationale to both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
