The Salvation Army (Salvos) Family Violence Services (TSA FVS) in the Northern Territory works with adults and children victim-survivors who have experienced or are experiencing family violence. We provide a welcoming and accessible environment that is safe and supportive to individual needs, ensuring services are inclusive and sensitive to the needs of individuals from all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people with disability.

Our Family Violence Refuge and Outreach Program in Darwin provides crisis response and case management for adults and children victim-survivors of family violence.

About the role

As a Senior Specialist Family Violence Practitioner - Mental Health, you will lead the delivery of high-quality mental health responses for victim-survivors of family violence within the TSA Family Violence Services in Darwin, the Northern Territory. This includes providing mental health crisis responses, clinical assessments, and interventions, as well as consultation to other professionals on referral pathways and mental health safety planning.

This role reports to the Family Violence Team Leader and is full-time, Fixed Term in Darwin until June 2026 on SCHADS Award Level 6.

How you will make an impact
  • Provide mental health crisis responses to victim-survivors across TSA NT FV Programs.
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality clinical mental health assessments and interventions with specialist services.
  • Provide and lead case consultation that offers guidance on solutions to referral pathways, mental health interventions, including mental health safety planning and risk assessment.
  • Work collaboratively with the Specialist FV Practitioners and Support Workers in providing holistic responses for victim survivors of family violence
  • Individual case plans that respond to the mental health needs of the victim surviviors to be developed in coordination with the Practitioner and the victim survivor
  • Establish effective relationships with clients that encourage self-determination and participation, upholding the principles of the National Family Violence Model of Care.
What you will bring
  • A tertiary qualification in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering mental health responses, including crisis intervention and clinical assessments.
  • Experience working in the family violence sector is highly desirable.
  • Ability to provide consultation and guidance on mental health safety planning and risk assessment.
  • Strong case management skills and ability to work within a female driven service.
  • Highly developed time management and prioritisation skills with ability to work autonomously.
  • Advanced computer skills including data and record management.
  • NT Drivers license
  • Ability and willingness to participate in on-call roster.
