Primary objective

The Senior Practice Leader supervises the Practice Leadership Team (PLT) to strengthen Community Corrections management of

domestic, family and sexual violence offending and increases staff expertise and retention by implementing the Resilience Framework (RF)

initiatives.

Context statement

The Community Corrections PLT aim to strengthen offender management responses and build workforce capacity through strategies

outlined in the PLT Operational Manual (PLT-OM) and Resilience Frameworks.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Implement Practice Leadership Team staffing and practice model under the supervision of the Senior Practice Director.

  1. Supervise the Practice Leaders and Specialist Case Managers and contribute to the development and ongoing evaluation of the PLTOM

and RF.

  1. Identify practice improvement priorities and report them to the Senior Practice Director; then lead implementation and evaluation.

  2. Design staff supervision and training with a focus on best practice offender management, complex sexual and violence offender

assessment and management, and resilience.

  1. Design policy and procedure and supervise the Practice Leaders to implement procedures across Community Corrections and conduct

regular audits to ensure adherence to risk needs and responsivity principles.

  1. Complete risk assessment, treatment and ongoing risk management with complex and high-risk offenders and provide reports and

advice to the Senior Practice Director and stakeholders.

  1. Identify stakeholders and develop Memorandums of Understanding to support through care, information sharing and contribute to

post supervision risk management for domestic, family and sexual violence offenders.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology or social work with unconditional registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health

Practitioner Regulation Agency or as a social worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers.

2. Experience with risk assessment and treatment of offenders with a focus on sexual, family and domestic violence.

  1. Experience working with aboriginal clients and communities, and a high-level understanding of cultural and contextual factors in the

Northern Territory.

4. Experience supervising clinical staff, leading new initiatives and engaging in change management.

  1. Experience developing programs, training, and evaluation, undertaking research and developing procedures.

  2. Excellent communication, reading and report writing skills and demonstrated ethical practice in complex situations with competing

priorities.

  1. Willingness to work flexible hours and undertake travel to remote communities.

    Desirable
  2. Accreditation as a supervisor with AHPRA or AASW

  3. Accreditation as an administrator or trainer in risk assessment tools.

Further information

Successful applicant must hold a manual Northern Territory Driver's Licence and may be required to travel within regional and remote

communities and camp out when required. Travel may be by means of road and air, including on outback roads in four-wheel drives, light

aircraft and boats. The Department of Corrections has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on departmental

premises, facilities or in vehicles, nor whilst working off-site. The preferred applicant/s will be required to complete a pre-employment

questionnaire and the successful applicant/s will be required to undergo a criminal history check (confirmed by fingerprints and name

check) prior to commencement of employment. An adverse criminal history will not necessarily exclude an applicant from this position.
