About the Opportunity

Maitland City Council's Pathways program is a fantastic way to kick-start your career and gain professional experience in local government

Commencing in January 2026, for a period of one year, our Business Administration Trainees will undertake general administration tasks across Council, whilst simultaneously gaining tertiary qualifications in Business Administration.

You also have the opportunity to jumpstart your career path by undertaking a traineeship in one of the below focus areas:

  • Environment
  • Business Support
  • Customer Experience

In this traineeship you will gain valuable administration skills including assisting with enquiries and requests from internal and external customers that will help build a strong foundation for a successful administrative career.

This traineeship provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain practical on the job experience, whilst also obtaining tertiary qualifications through a Registered Training Organisation/TAFE. Maitland Council will provide you an opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge, and experience across a range of functions across Council.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Eligibility to complete a Certificate III Traineeship in Business Administration (please read the role charter to confirm your eligibility before applying)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work productively in a team and positively contribute to team goals
  • Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Experience in quality customer service and continuous improvement

This role will be suitable for those who have recently completed high school, as well as any candidates who may be looking for a change of career and an opportunity to gain experience administration experience in local government

Benefits

This is a full time, temporary 12-month role working a 35-hour week, with a salary range of $20,732.40 up to $42,104.40 per year + 12% super. Commencing salary is dependent on age and/or previous education.

Council also covers the cost of all TAFE/RTO fees and gives trainees access to staff benefits such as flexible working arrangements & fitness passport.
