The Best Ability is looking for a compassionate, energetic and driven Disability Support Workers to join our company in Cairns. We provide individualised and tailored care and support to people living with disabilities.

The opportunity is for a casual position with set days and time of roster

Experience with epilepsy is preferred but not essential – there is a training onsite and online we will provide if needed.

About the Opportunity

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing support and care to a teenage participant both in the home and out in the community. Support Worker will assist the participant with their day to day activities while encouraging their independence and respecting their choice and control.

Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting our participant with day-to-day activities
  • Building relationships with our participants
  • School picks up
  • Supporting our participants with appointments
  • Providing in home support.
  • Providing community access to our participants eg grocery shopping, recreational activities ect.
  • Assisting participant with medication
  • Assisting with personal care, helping with daily activities like bathing, dressing, eating, grooming and dental hygiene, toileting
  • Recording detailed Incident Reports and Shift Notes
  • Ensuring the participants needs are being met, paying particular focus to the goals outlined in their NDIS plan.

About You

To be successful in the role you must have:

  • Yellow Card (or willing to apply)
  • Blue Card (or willing to apply)
  • Third party car insurance and use of your own motor vehicle for transporting participant
  • Drivers Licence
  • Full working rights within Australia

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Certificate 3 or above in community services or individual support
  • Experience with high intensity supports
  • Experience in a similar role will be highly advantageous
