This QLD state department is seeking an experienced Site Safety Officer to oversee Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) management systems for a major project located within an operational correctional centre at Wacol.

In this role, you will ensure all safety practices comply with current legislative requirements and the departments operating procedures. You'll be a key part of the site management team, driving a strong safety culture and maintaining compliance across all project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor WHS management systems on site.
  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Provide safety leadership, guidance, and training to site personnel.
  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and departments safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with contractors and project stakeholders to promote safe work practices.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety (or equivalent).
  • Current General Construction Induction (White Card).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation and codes of practice.

Highly Desirable

  • Proven experience managing WHS on large commercial building projects for a principal contractor.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safety outcomes.
  • Previous experience in government or correctional facility projects is advantageous.

Additional Information

  • This is a site-based role located within an operational correctional centre.
  • A criminal history background check is required to obtain site access approval.
