About Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service
Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled, not-for-profit community legal practice that has been standing with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for more than 15 years.
Established in 2009, with offices in eight regions across Queensland.
We specialise in supporting victims experiencing domestic and family violence and sexual assault by delivering a combination of:
• Legal advice, casework and representation in domestic and family violence, family law, child protection, victims' assistance, and related areas.
• Court and tribunal advocacy.
• Wellbeing and case management support, helping clients access housing, safety planning, income support and community services.
• Community legal education and prevention initiatives, working with schools, health services and local organisations to build safer futures.
To further strengthen our support services and respond to growing community needs, we are expanding with our dedicated Case Management Officers and Outreach Engagement Teams across Queensland. Enhancing our ability to provide holistic, wrap-around, culturally safe support by reaching more clients in regional and remote areas—ensuring no one is left behind.

About the role
The Family Advocacy Support Worker is integral to the delivery of culturally appropriate supports and services. This includes assisting an individual with their legal and inter-related non-legal needs. The FASW is also responsible for building the capacity to empower high needs and vulnerable people and their communities, to take control over their own lives.
Legal & Client Support
- Assist solicitors with case preparation, court documents, and client file management.
- Attend court with clients to provide emotional and procedural support as directed by the solicitor.
- Help clients understand legal processes, ensuring information is delivered in a culturally safe and accessible way.
- Support clients to engage in the development and achievement of their Legal Case Management Plans.
- Maintain legal files in accordance with QIFVLS' Legal Case Management Guidelines and confidentiality protocols.
Community Engagement & Education
- Liaise with local communities, legal services, government agencies, and support groups to ensure coordinated service delivery.
- Assist in the planning, development, and facilitation of community legal education sessions using culturally appropriate materials.
- Represent QIFVLS at community events, forums, and meetings as required.
- Update and maintain stakeholder directories, community profiles, and engagement plans to support service delivery.
Administration & File Management
- Perform general administrative duties including diary and travel coordination, data entry, and correspondence.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in legal databases and registers (e.g. file management system, stakeholder directories).
- Ensure files are prepared and maintained to support efficient legal service delivery.
- Monitor and report on progress towards service delivery targets.
Remote Outreach Travel
- Engage directly with remote communities through regular travel, building trust and supporting culturally safe legal service delivery.
