Lead Electrical Designer

The Lead Drafter will oversee, and resource manage the drafting team within GPS Electrical Services, ensuring that all electrical drawings are scheduled, tracked, and completed to the highest standard. This role is central to maintaining consistency, accuracy, and compliance in drafting processes, while supporting the Engineering Manager in achieving project delivery outcomes. They will also produce Electrical Drafting Designs as a part of this role.

Team & Resource Management

• Manage and allocate workloads across the drafting team to meet project timelines.
• Monitor progress of drawings in line with the drafting schedule and action accordingly.
• Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to team members.

Drafting & Technical

• Proficiently use AutoCAD Electrical to produce, review, and check electrical drawings.
• Maintain and continually improve GPS drafting standards and templates.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, practical, and compliant with industry standards.

Document Control

• Take responsibility for the control and management of drawings across all projects.
• Implement and maintain effective systems for the storage, version control, and retrieval of drawings on the company network drive.
• Ensure document management processes meet internal and external compliance requirements.

Collaboration & Reporting

• Work closely with the Engineering Manager and project teams to prioritise drafting deliverables.
• Communicate effectively with engineers, electricians, and project stakeholders to resolve technical queries.
• Regularly report on drafting progress, resourcing, and potential risks.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

• Uphold and protect the Health, Safety and wellbeing of self and others involved in the GPS Electrical Services operations (GPS)
• Compliance with all GPS OHS and Environmental policies and procedures including but not limited to active participation in Toolbox's, completing a Prestart where required.
• OHS risks to staff, clients and visitors is minimised at all times.

Other

• Maintain Key Relationships with other design Team Members, Factory/Board Building Team, Site Projects Implementation Team.
• Experience in developing and enforcing drafting standards.
• Appreciation for document control and engineering systems/workflows.
• Exposure to engineering design within the electrical contracting industry.
• Other reasonable duties and requests as required from time to time.
• May be required to undergo regular security checks, including a criminal history check.

• Electrical Engineering degree OR qualified A-Grade Electrician with relevant drafting experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Experience in drafting management, scheduling, and team coordination.
• Strong understanding of electrical schematics, standards, and compliance requirements.
• Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
