ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an influential role as it represents the Biraban aboriginal community in managing land claims, acquiring and selling land and also developing housing options The role also works with a range of stakeholders, local councils and National Parks, commercial operators, to effectively manage the lands within the Biraban jurisdiction.
This role actively supports the aboriginal community to protect and promote local aboriginal culture and heritage. You will need to work closely with the community to grow the membership, understand and respond to what is important to the community.
Candidates of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage are preferred but not essential for this role.
ABOUT YOU
· Knowledge of, and experience in working with the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983(ALRA)
· Theoretical knowledge of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA) is acceptable
· Proven ability to maintain focus on outcomes, to follow through and ensure action to achieve work objectives.
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills manage diverse stakeholders, including Aboriginal communities, government, council and developers.
· Excellent land development experience and strong financial acumen.
· Project management level experience in land development is required
· Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with confidence in handling conflict and resolving complex issues.
· Proven track record as a senior executive in implementing and monitoring strategies and working with a board of directors.
· Cultural understanding of the role of land councils in Aboriginal communities.
· Experience in understanding and addressing the needs of Aboriginal communities.
· Strong organisational and management skills for effective leadership, including facilitating meetings.
