The impact you'll have:
At the Workplace Injury Commission (WIC), we've helped thousands of injured workers and employers to resolve their disputes and move forward with their lives. We're a robust Victorian Government statutory authority that's making an impact.
As we journey through an exciting chapter of growth, we need you to join us as an Arbitration Officer. The Arbitration Officer is an independent statutory decision-maker, responsible for conducting the arbitration and determining disputes as a key contributor to the success of the WIC arbitration service. You will effectively determine disputes fairly and cost-effectively, whilst also ensuring WIC delivers on its legislative requirements under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 (WIRC Act).
Drawing on your experience in alternate dispute resolution (ADR), you will deliver a consistent and high-quality arbitration service. Working closely with other Arbitration Officers, you will contribute to a culture of high performance and accountability, with a commitment to delivering outstanding arbitration services.
Additionally, with your comprehensive knowledge within the Victorian WorkCover scheme, you will occasionally contribute support to WIC's Conciliation service, including conferencing some conciliation cases, based on operational needs and where your capacity allows.
Who we're looking for:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in law or dispute resolution and extensive experience in conciliation, arbitration or alternative dispute resolution
- Experience leading or conducting hearings and determining disputes in a fair, impartial and professional way
- Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience working within the Victorian WorkCover scheme or similar scheme
- Demonstrated ability to write and publish technical or legislatively based decisions that are subject to judicial review
- Experience working within a complex legislative framework
- Ability to work with key internal stakeholders including the Arbitration Practice Group Manager, Arbitration Officers, Hearing Support Officers and other WIC employees to assist in the achievement of team-based goals
