Catholic Employee Relations (CER) is a Not for Profit legal practice providing employment and industrial relations advice and representation to our clients. CER is a subsidiary of Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW).

About this role...

In this role you will be working as part of a high calibre team of employment relations lawyers and within the broader CSNSW legal team. We are focused on developing relationships with and assisting our clients in providing a productive and safe workplace, and adopting best practices, whilst also representing clients where disputes or issues have arisen.

Reporting into the Managing Principal your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):-

  • Provide advice to clients on a wide range of proactive and practical matters including performance management, policy development and recruitment
  • Assist and advise in key matters including termination of employment, discrimination, and work health and safety
  • Assist and represent clients in enterprise bargaining
  • Provide advice and updates in industrial developments at the Federal and State level
  • Lead legal and Industrial Relations projects and initiatives
  • Represent clients in courts and tribunals
  • Participate in conciliation and/or mediation conferences
  • Prepare and present online and face to face training
  • Contribute to and participate in team development

This is a full-time permanent position working from the CSNSW office located in Sydney CBD.

About you...

The ideal candidate will have however not limited to

  • Legal qualifications with 7+ years post admission experience in either a law firm, at an industry association or in-house role
  • Admission to practice law must be held in any Australian jurisdiction
  • Strong experience in employment law and industrial relations
  • Experience in enterprise agreement bargaining
  • The ability to understand and interpret high level legislation and court/tribunal decisions
  • Excellent negotiation / influencing / drafting skills
  • Adept at using technology including time recording software, legal search programs and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • The ability to work autonomously, but also be a strong team contributor
  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
  • Working with Children Check clearance must be obtained before starting the role
  • Empathy with and support for the mission, ethos and beliefs of CSNSW and the communities they serve.
