The successful candidate will be required to perform a broad range of administrative and support tasks for a multi-disciplinary health care team. These tasks may include processing admissions, dispatches, reception duties, records maintenance, and the collation and distribution of reports.

The APS 4 Health Clerk is an important member in the Primary Health Care Team model, acting as an essential interface between ADF patients and their health care service. Their role involves liaison with patients, health professionals, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure support to services.

As an APS 4 Health Clerk, they are responsible for allocating tasks, monitoring workloads, setting priorities, and streamlining procedures to meet required medical administrative outcomes. They also provide triage support to the health centre and provide coaching and training for new and less experienced team members.

About our Team
Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 70,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition from service.

Health care services are delivered through eight Joint Health regions across Australia. The APS4 Health Clerk position is part of Joint Health Unit - Central Australia and is based at Edinburgh Health Centre, RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia. Each Joint Health Unit facility provides a range of services which can include medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, rehabilitation, and in-patient care.

The JHC workforce is an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of Defence members, civilians, contractors and professional health providers. We work together to manage around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year.

The Health Clerk Team is the face and administration hub of the health centre, responsible for managing the initial patient streaming (triage), medical appointments, referrals, specialist bookings and administration processes. This position reports to the APS6 Registered Nurse/Health Administration Team Leader, Edinburgh Health Centre.

They must understand and comply with relevant Defence policies and legislative frameworks applicable to their role, and be committed to ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
