Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying legislation within a regulatory environment, with a strong track record of conducting thorough investigations, gathering and compiling evidence, and presenting cases effectively in Court. They will possess a sound understanding of procedural fairness and the ability to exercise discretion appropriately in complex and sensitive matters.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with an ever-changing dynamic team within the Mid-Western Regional Council.
This role is a full-time role, based on site in Mudgee with options of flexible working arrangements.
The salary range being offered for this full-time position is $2,712-$3,052 gross per fortnight plus superannuation which equates to an annual salary of $70,517- $79,375 gross plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).
Key Accountabilities
- Report to and provide information, feedback and documentation as required by the Compliance Coordinator and/or Manager Customer Service & Governance.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of legislation that underpins Council's authority and responsibilities.
- Undertake regulatory compliance and enforcement activities in accordance with policy and procedure, as directed by the Compliance Coordinator or Manager Customer Services & Governance.
- As directed by the Compliance Coordinator, investigate and report back on unauthorised activities and reports of alleged illegal activities by the public.
- Collaborate with authorised officers across Council to conduct investigations and compliance activities.
- Initiate proactive compliance activities in accordance with Council priorities and functions.
- Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, prepare correspondence and issue notices and orders as directed by the Compliance Coordinator.
- Create and maintain accurate records when conducting investigations and when responding to public enquiries, in accordance with operating procedures and guidelines from NSW Ombudsman.
- To support the enforcement of legislation where Council is the regulator, in conjunction with the Compliance Coordinator and subject matter experts.
- Participate in annual and short-term planning of own work activities and projects aligned with Council's Operational and Delivery Plan.
- To provide quality customer service through clear and accurate advice to members of the public and Council's staff via face-to-face discussions, on the telephone and via general written correspondence.
- To provide advice and educate the public in relation to compliance matters as required.
- Representing Council on legal matters as required by Council.
