Primary objective

The Assistant Director – Talent Acquisition leads a team dedicated to providing high level workforce planning and expert recruitment

advice and support to school leadership to ensure schools are well positioned to meet current and future educational staffing

requirements.

Context statement

The Department of Education and Training is a system that delivers, supports and regulates early childhood, school education and training

services. There are 153 government schools across 6 regions in the NT - Central, Big Rivers, Barkly, Top End, Darwin and East Arnhem –

with 71 percent of schools located in remote and very remote areas. This position leads talent acquisition across the 6 regions. The Talent,

Attraction and Recruitment team supports the department's strategic direction by ensuring the organisation is positioned to meet its

current and future educational staffing requirements.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead, mentor and manage the Talent Acquisition team and oversee end to end recruitment processes, ensuring a positive experience

for candidates and hiring managers.

  1. Maintain strong, diverse talent pipelines to meet current and future hiring needs.

  2. Develop and deliver innovative projects and initiatives to build a high-quality educator workforce across Northern Territory

government schools.

4. Lead and coordinate workforce support and systems for talent and attraction activities, including relief teacher pool, sourcing pools,

bulk, and specialist recruitment in line with current legislation, policies and processes.

5. Build and sustain partnerships with internal and external, local and national level stakeholders - contributing own expertise and

harnessing expertise from stakeholders to achieve outcomes aligned to agency priorities.

  1. Research, analysis and reporting on current and emerging national and local education workforce trends to inform the strategic

direction and the development of evidence-based initiatives.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Contemporary knowledge and experience of contemporary recruitment practices, including building talent pipelines and sourcing

strategies.

  1. Proven ability to network and collaborate across an organisation, within schools and external stakeholders through the initiation,

planning, consultation and liaison, development and delivery of programs and initiatives.

3. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a small team in a complex environment and problem solve.

4. Proven capability to operate effectively in a politically sensitive environment while maintaining high standards of professionalism,

ethics, departmental values and accountability.

5. Strong written communication, reporting, interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in the preparation of strategic advice and

support, briefings, reports and other correspondence detailed reports and correspondence.

  1. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Comprehensive understanding of

cultural responsiveness in planning, attracting, recruiting, and deploying education workforce resources.

Desirable

1. Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business and/or Marketing.

  1. Knowledge of current and emerging labour market issues, risks and opportunities for the agency and sound knowledge of

contemporary public sector human resources management and recruitment.
