Primary objective

As part of the school's leadership team, provide educational leadership and management focusing on continuous school

improvement, and collaborate with others to inspire students and staff in learning.

Context statement

Nhulunbuy High School is a comprehensive and inclusive secondary school that caters for students in years 7 to 12, with a

current student population of 300, of whom approximately 40% are indigenous. The school includes a special education

annexe, a maritime training facility and a 40-bed boarding facility for indigenous students from remote communities across

Arnhem Land, and the Clontarf and Stars Programs for support. Through the Australian Curriculum, we provide pathways

for students to achieve the NTCET, including an ATAR for university, or further training and employment through a VET

qualification. The school has approximately 60 employees which includes teachers, administration and support staff.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide educational leadership to address the educational and well-being needs of a diverse group of indigenous

students, through provision of relevant, high quality and culturally appropriate teaching and learning underpinned by

relationships-based learning and trauma-informed evidence-based practice.

  1. As part of the Leadership Team, contribute to the development, implementation and review of programs, procedures

and actions through continuous school improvement processes, using a range of data as evidence to monitor and

understand impact of behavior and teaching on student well-being and learning.

  1. Coach teachers and classroom-based support staff for improved performance to ensure the delivery of high quality

educational programs for indigenous students.

  1. Collaborate with the school administration for the allocation of students, staff, programs and resources to optimize

student learning outcomes.

  1. Undertake other related duties as required by the Principal.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and current Working With Children

Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) or the qualifications and ability to obtain both.

2. Demonstrated ability to use data, evidence, and community feedback to monitor student progress, inform decision-

making, and drive continuous improvement in indigenous education outcomes.

3. Proven ability to lead others in the implementation of secondary programs and initiatives to improve student wellbeing

and learning outcomes especially for EALD students.

4. Proven high level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, to support collaborative practice aimed at

improving student achievement and outcomes.

5. Proven ability to lead others and interact effectively with people of diverse cultures and roles to build and maintain

effective relationships with students, staff, parents and community, especially in cross-cultural contexts.
