Primary objective

As part of an agile East Arnhem regional team, and working to the Regional Executive Director, the Regional Director will

provide strategic whole-of-government leadership and coordination to ensure effective delivery of priority government

policies, programs and projects in the East Arnhem region, to rebuild the economy, reduce crime and restore the Territory

lifestyle at the regional level. The successful applicant will need to work collaboratively with community leaders, service

providers, government agencies and other stakeholders to project manage the Gove Peninsula Futures mining transition to

achieve a positive socio-economic transition of the Gove Peninsula and North East Arnhem region.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Build and maintain strategic and collaborative relationships with Yolŋu and Anindilyakwa leaders, the Anindilyakwa and

Northern Land Councils, mining companies, all tiers of Government and agencies, service providers and local businesses.

2. Project manage the NT Government's role in the Gove mining transition and futures processes.

3. Support implementation of the government's policy agenda, including regional priority settings and cross-agency

collaboration.

4. Support the development of innovative service delivery and policy implementation solutions to foster regional economic

growth and economic participation and improve outcomes for Territorians.

5. Provide critical evidence-based analysis, strategic input to policy and program development and high-level advice across

social, economic and other areas that have an impact on the region.

6. Work with regional and local stakeholders to develop and implement innovative strategies and initiatives that address

key issues affecting the East Arnhem Region.

7. Support disaster resilience and recovery through Local Emergency Committees and planning.

8. Lead a small team of regionally based CMC staff.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated high-level strategic and innovative thinking skills with demonstrated experience in supporting community

solutions, providing high-level advice across social, economic and other areas that have an impact in the region.

2. High-level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to negotiate, collaborate and build and

sustain relationships and strategic alliances effectively with team members, internal and external stakeholders, NGO and

private sectors, Aboriginal leaders at a senior level.

  1. Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including managing teams in time of change and the delivery of business

unit priorities

  1. Demonstrated high level of political awareness, sensitivity, and judgement combined with demonstrated experience in

working from a whole-of-government perspective, or the ability to quickly acquire.

  1. High-level organisational and coordination skills including the ability to work autonomously and under pressure,

prioritising workloads and maintaining flexibility and agility.

  1. Well-developed cross-cultural competency skills together with knowledge of issues affecting people in remote and

regional areas.

Desirable

1. Formal tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or demonstrated experience.
