**Introduction**
The Department of Defence is seeking an enthusiastic senior executive to fill the position of Deputy Secretary Naval Shipbuilding & Sustainment.
The Deputy Secretary Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment leads the delivery of naval acquisition programs and sustainment of the fleet. The Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group is also the lead agency for the development of a naval shipbuilding and sovereign sustainment industry. The Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise is a complex and challenging national endeavour with a planned investment over the next two decades of over $200 billion.
**Your Role**
The Deputy Secretary Naval Shipbuilding & Sustainment is responsible for the implementation of the Government's Naval Shipbuilding Plan. The Deputy Secretary is the principal agent responsible for the coordination and integration of shipbuilding matters within Defence, and across Government and industry. The portfolio is broad and diverse; it includes all of the naval shipbuilding projects and relevant sustainment activities (with the exception of the nuclear-powered submarine program); delivery of the four key enablers (infrastructure, workforce, industry reform and a national approach); coordination of security across the enterprise; and development and management of relationships with critical stakeholders across all levels of government and industry.
To be the Deputy Secretary Naval Shipbuilding & Sustainment you will need to demonstrate the right skills and experience to be at the forefront of one of Australia’s most challenging and complex industrial undertakings. You will lead a large and integrated workforce of over 2000 dedicated professionals including ADF members, public service officers and contractors. You will be responsible for delivering the largest recapitalisation of the Navy since World War II. This is truly a whole-of-Government activity, and you will be required to manage the enterprise across Government, both Federal and State, and establish effective relationships with industry leaders, relevant peak bodies and union representatives.
As a member of Defence’s senior leadership group, you must be able to promote a culture of innovation, collaboration and agility. You must also be able to effectively manage complex legislative and ethical frameworks to achieve capability outcomes for Defence and the Australian Government.
Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. To be eligible, you must be an Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position and you will be required to hold or obtain a Positive Vetting security clearance.
