Defence requires exceptional senior executives to drive forward the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Taskforce’s program of new technology and deliver the Government’s intent. We are seeking to fill two roles in the Technology Division at the Chief of Division Grade 1 level to support this work.

**Your Role**

Position 1: Assistant Secretary Technology Enterprise
As the Assistant Secretary Technology Enterprise, you will lead and manage the Technology Enterprise Branch and establish and maintain the national technical base required to effectively deliver and sustain Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine capability.

The key responsibilities of the role are to:

- Lead and manage the strategies and programs that will grow and sustain Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine technology enterprise;
- Identify and engage with senior stakeholders across the NPS Taskforce, Defence and other government agencies on the innovation, science and technology programs that generate objective quality evidence needed in the delivery of warranted engineering advice;
- Assure that Australia has the required science, technology and engineering capability, capacity and quality to safely and effectively manage our NPS capability;
- Lead the engagement with industry leaders, Public Funded Research Agency (PFRA) leaders, and international partners on the programs that will grow and sustain the required innovation, science and technology base;
- Contribute expert technical analysis needed to support advice to senior defence and government stakeholders; and
- Lead and manage the Technology Enterprise Branch, including defence and contracted industry personnel with diverse experience including technology specialists, innovation leaders, education specialists, project managers, and shipbuilding infrastructure experts.

Additionally, you will contribute to the preparation of Ministerial and Cabinet submissions and briefings for Minsters in relation to new innovation, science and technology programs required for the acquisition, build and sustainment of a fleet of nuclear powered submarines, develop fulsome and targeted briefing material in relation to innovation, science and technology programs to support Australian delegations on overseas visits and support the First Assistant Secretary Technology in their involvement with trilateral working groups.

Position 2: Assistant Secretary Nuclear Science and Engineering
As the Assistant Secretary Nuclear Science and Engineering, you will lead and manage the Nuclear Science and Engineering Branch and establish and maintain the scientific and engineering foundations needed to set the standards required for nuclear safety and radiation safety within Australia’s naval nuclear propulsion program.

You will sponsor the innovation, science and technology programs required to:

- Establish a comprehensive understanding of nuclear and radiation safety limits for people, as well as monitor the dosage received by every individual who works within the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Program;
- Underpin the safety case required for Australia’s naval nuclear propulsion systems and related infrastructure;
- Facilitate partnerships with our AUKUS partners on systems engineering and scientific analysis of nuclear propulsion technologies; and
- Facilitate partnerships with Australia’s science agencies, industry and related research organisations on systems engineering and scientific analysis of nuclear propulsion technologies.
